Underground cartoonist Gilbert Shelton's long-running Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers will be adapted to an eight-episode animated series from WTG Enterprises, according to Deadline.

Workaholics's Adam Devine and Blake Anderson will voice two of the show's four leads - a trio of stoner 'freaks' named Freewheelin’ Franklin Freek, Phineas T. Phreak and Fat Freddy Frekowtski and their cat - though their specific roles haven't been specified.

“We connected so much to these characters,” Devine and Anderson said in a joint statement. “They’re just trying to enjoy life while understanding the world around them, and the adventures they go through along the way had us fully giggling while simultaneously making us think. When the opportunity arose to get involved not just as talent but also on a creative level, we jumped at the chance and also weed, man!”

The animated series will be written by Silicon Valley creators John Althschuler and Dave Krinsky, who will also serve as producers alongside showrunners Alan Cohen and Alan Freedland, best known for their work on King of the Hill

“There is so much topical, pop-culturally relevant, irreverent and hilarious source material to pull from, we’re just beyond thrilled to be working on such a fun and layered property,” Freedland and Cohen said. ”Now is the time to be creating smart adult animated shows that touch on topics that are timeless and timely.”

No distributor for The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers has been named. More information is expected to be announced during a panel at Comic-Con International: San Diego, set for 7 p.m. Pacific Time July 19 in Room BCF of the San Diego Convention Center.
